As North Texas’s premier planned community Gateway Forney proudly boasts a robust sense of community, walkable neighborhoods, and excellent quality of life. Our resident children already attend some of the best schools of the state. And now, we’re thrilled to share that the exceptional Forney Independent School District (ISD) has announced its plan to build six new campuses – including one right here in Gateway – and embark on myriad other campus improvements. Here’s how the new plan could affect current and future residents.
Forney ISD Opens New Campuses
The school board has already approved a massive plan that would produce six new schools with the help of a voter-approved $623 million facilities bond. The district is one of Texas’s fastest growing, and the bond is designed to help school growth keep pace with demand. Forney ISD plans to open Tony A. Jackson Middle School and Tim V. Rhodes Intermediate School in 2021. The two campuses will be separate but will share key facilities. Jerry and Helen Griffin Elementary School will also open in in 2021. In 2022, the district intends to open Don R. Willett Elementary School in Gateway and O.B. Johnson Elementary School. In 2024, the district proposes the creation of the Keith Bell College and Career Center.
The bond will also help fund a range of improvements, including:
- Creating a restaurant at Forney High School
- Renovating Claybon Elementary
- Traffic improvements at Criswell Elementary
- Expanding the AG barn to the Animal Science Center
- Improvements to the Welding and Fabrication Center
- Building digital marquees at Forney High and North Forney High
